“Nothing Could Be Finer” boasted the period advertisement for Lincoln’s top-of-the-line Continental, and that claim stood up to scrutiny. Priced at $4,662, Lincoln targeted the top tier of the automotive market, and just 831 Coupes were produced, including the example presented here. While owned by noted Lincoln enthusiast Craig Watjen, this gorgeous Continental Coupe benefited from a thorough, multiyear restoration by a marque expert prior to its debut showing in 2008 at the CCCA Annual Meeting. At that event, the Lincoln garnered First Place, earning a 98.25 score and being awarded senior badge number 2829. Numerous awards followed, including a Lincoln Trophy in 2009 at the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club, and a perfect score and First Place in July 2014 at the LCOC Meet. Now owned by a friend of Mr. Watjen’s who purchased it after his passing, it has been driven just 300 miles since restoration and still presents very well today.

Finished in a period-correct Lincoln maroon with contrasting tan whipcord and leather upholstery, the overall presentation is elegant. Convenience features include power windows, power antenna, and Lincoln’s Adjust-O-Matic radio with the additional foot-activated control. Documented by an extensive history file that includes a handwritten record of the restoration, and accompanied by awards won at concours events, this is a stunning piece of Americana. With only 11 examples listed in the CCCA roster at the time of cataloguing, its next owner can look forward to show and touring opportunities reserved for a select few.
