This 1971 Lincoln Mark III is a 2-door Hardtop that was purchased new in Norfolk, Nebraska, and then quickly moved to California. The owner was a wealthy and eccentric businessman who decided to build the ultimate sleeper: a luxury getaway car that could be added to his collection, race to his waterfront house in Naples, Florida, or sail and motor to his private island in Puget Sound, Washington. To begin the build the engine was removed, and in its place was fitted an aluminum head cast iron Ford big-block 460 SVO. The steel hood was raised 2 inches and fitted with Cowl Induction to accommodate a high-rise SVO manifold and Holley carburetor. Additional modifications included the fitting of custom headers, remote oil filter and MSD ignition. Once the modifications were completed, the car was driven for a short time and then put into storage. The car was finally sold in 2009 and has been driven a few times between storage periods. The Maroon Metallic Mark III shows 1,676 miles on the odometer and features a white leather with vinyl interior, white vinyl roof, Automatic Speed Control (cruise control), AM radio with stereo 8-track, power windows, power seats, power front disc brakes and Cartier Electric Clock. It also includes original documentation including the window sticker, build sheet, consumer information and owner’s manual.
